Call for Presentations

NYSSBA 2021
Annual Convention and Education Expo
Call for
Presentation
Deadline Extended: March 12, 2021

OVERVIEW

The New York State School Boards Association is pleased to announce its redesigned Call for Presentations for NYSSBA 2021, which will be held in person at the New York Hilton Midtown in New York City Oct. 24-26, 2021.

The 2021 event theme is Coming of Age. We chose this theme to reflect the change, growth and evolution in boards of educations, administrators, educators and students in the times in which we live. This is your opportunity to share your knowledge and expertise with school board members and education leaders across New York State.

NYSSBA seeks proposals that reflect sound adult learning principles in conference presentation and the best thinking, informed by theory, research and practice. Adult learning theory suggests that the best learning environments are the ones that are collaborative and utilize a problem-based approach. To deliver exceptional learning experiences at the conference, preference will be given to proposals that answer the following content questions and address the target audience.

CONTENT QUESTIONS TO CONSIDER

  • How do I create moments of reflection?
  • Have I allowed conversation and dialogue throughout my session?
  • What skill will attendees develop?
  • How can I challenge attendees to think of new solutions as public education policy makers?
  • Can I include a learning game?

AUDIENCE

HOW PROPOSALS WILL BE REVIEWED

  • A diverse committee of selected NYSSBA staff with years of experience in leadership development, member relations, policy and marketing and communications will evaluate each submission using a Likert scale to measure agreement based on the following five criteria:
    1. Overall Quality
    2. Relevance specific to school board member audience
    3. Ability to inspire action or solve a problem
    4. Originality
    5. Interactive program design
  • We receive several hundred submissions each year so understand this is a difficult and highly selective process.

CONVENTION & EVENT STAFF

  • Once submissions are accepted from the Call for Presentations, we will identify gaps which staff will address through additional content development strategies.
