Volunteer Opportunities

The S/C is a large event & requires all hands on deck to be successful.  Volunteering is a great way to get involved in NSH & be a part of NSH’s premier educational event.  If you are able to assist in any of the following positions please email the contact person listed so that you can be added to the schedule.

Career Day (earn 2 contact hours*)
Contact Person: Sue Clark, dotmr@bellsouth.net
Are you looking for a fun way to spend your Monday of the convention? Well how about considering educating 125 High School students on what exactly you do each day?

On Monday September 19, 2011 NSH will be hosting its 2011 Career Day from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM.  We need volunteers for the AM session (8:30 AM to 11:30 AM and the PM session (12:00 PM to 3:00 PM).  Participants can volunteer for one session or both sessions.  Volunteers will work at lab stations to demonstrate grossing, embedding, cutting, staining, and coverslipping.  In addition volunteers will work with kids at a microscope to look at their completed slides.  The event also includes an "expert" panel for a Q& A session detailing the different areas of histology.  If this sounds like something you would love to be a part of include that in your email.  Volunteers are asked to attend a brief training session on Sunday September 18th after the lecture series at 10:45am

Registration Desk (earn 2 contact hours*)

The NSH registration desk is a great way to see old friends & meet new ones as you greet and check in S/C attendees, speakers and exhibitors.  The Convention Committee is looking for volunteers to work on:
Friday, September 16 (10am – 6pm)
Saturday, September 17 (7am – 5pm)
Sunday, September 18 (7am – 5pm)
Monday, September 19 (7am – 5pm)

Please email Jessica, Jessica@nsh.org, with the days & times you wish to volunteer.  Assignments will be emailed in September.

Workshop Ambassadors
Contact Person: Jessica Smith, Jessica@nsh.org

Workshop Ambassadors are essential to the success of our workshops.  Ambassadors are responsible for distributing handouts and collecting workshop tickets for contact hours.  Ambassadors serve in workshops they are already attending and work as the liaison to the Convention Committee Workroom – ensuring everything goes as planned.  As a thank you ambassadors receive a $97.50 check following the convention.  If you wish to serve as an Ambassador please email Jessica, Jessica@nsh.org.   Assignments will be emailed in September.

Convention Mentors (earn 2 contact hours*)
Contact Person: Brenda Royce, Brenda@nsh.org
As our theme states there is so much more than one good thing about the NSH Symposium/Convention.  Attending a National Convention for the first time or alone can be intimidating.  Convention mentors are paired with first time and/or international attendees to help those new to the SC get the most out of their experience.  Convention Mentors are asked to make contact with their mentee prior to the SC to arrange for a time to meet possibly over breakfast or the First Time Attendee Reception.  During the week we hope Mentors are available to answer questions, buddy up for a hospitality event or walk through the Exhibit Hall with their mentee.  If you have attended the SC before and would like to serve as a Convention Mentor please email Brenda, Brenda@nsh.org.  Assignments will be emailed in September.
