Our country is undergoing a racial justice and equity movement that is directly impacting our students, colleges, and communities. Higher education institutions across the country have committed themselves to a process of self-examination and equity-focused change. In this context, attention to teaching and learning has never been more important. To meet the challenges of this moment and to prepare for a post-COVID “new normal,” we must find new ways to support educators in an ongoing process of learning-focused change.

During this two-day virtual institute participants will engage in peer learning, facilitated conversations, and planning activities to center equity in teaching and learning. With a focus on equity-mindedness and the role of equity-minded leaders in this work, we will showcase exemplar network colleges centering equity in teaching and learning. Participants will have the opportunity to make connections with peer institutions working towards similar goals as they examine classroom-based practices, student data, and design principles for equity-focused professional learning. Across the two-day convening, participants will design an action-based strategy for implementing equitable instructional models for student success.

Who Should Attend?

Individual educators or teams of:
* faculty
* faculty developers
* department chairs and deans
* chief academic officers
* provosts

Learning Objectives

At the end of the institute, participants will be able to:

  • articulate what it means to take an equity-focused approach to teaching and learning.
  • plan for equity-minded professional learning to support educators across campus, including full-time faculty, adjunct faculty, and student affairs professionals.
  • understand the importance of analyzing disaggregated student outcome data to identify equity gaps in their courses, and support colleagues in this process.
  • initiate a process of implementing instructional practices designed to close equity gaps.
  • be empowered to address inequities in their classrooms and at their institutions.
