How do I know which track is right for me and my team?

Answer: We are happy to help you identify the right track for your team. Please contact Julia Lawton, Director of Holistic Student Supports at to learn more about the two tracks and discuss how they could be of value to your college. 


How many people can my college send to the 2019 Holistic Student Supports Institute?


As many as you would like to send! We strongly advise that institutions send a cross-functional and cross-hierarchical team of four or more individuals that represent the key stakeholders related to or impacted by your student support redesign.

Question: Who should be part of the team we send?
Answer: Ideally, these individuals would collectively have in-depth knowledge of one or more of the following areas:
  • Current student support processes and policies
  • The need for student support redesign and how it connects with the institution's strategic goals
  • Use and capabilities of technologies at your institution
  • Understanding of the experiences of those stakeholders who will be most affected by your redesign, particularly your students.
You may want to consider including in your team cross-hierarchical representative(s) of frontline and mid-level student services staff (such as advising, registrar, financial aid, basic needs, etc.), at least one representative from instruction (ideally an influential faculty member, dean, or VP), IT and /or, IR, and HR. The team should include at least one individual with authority to make decisions and multiple individuals who work with students on a regular basis. 
Question: Why do you recommend institutions send a team to this institute?
Answer: As this is a working institute, institutions stand to maximize their value by sending a team of at least four individuals involved in designing and delivering student support enhancements. Institutional teams will have dedicated time to work together on applying the theory and knowledge gained each day to their unique institutional context with the support of an institute facilitator. At the end of the institute, teams will walk away with the start of a plan for enhancing their student support experience and a framework for moving forward.
Question: Can I still attend without a team?
Answer: Yes! Everyone is welcome to attend. 
Question: What is the holistic student supports approach?


A holistic student supports approach is the intentional planning and integration of mission critical student academic and personal supports. This is the different  from simply offering a multitude of disparate services for designated populations of students. Providing holistic student supports requires that institutions become student-ready by integrating and enhancing myriad support services into a seamless, timely, and personal experience for every student. h sNo student exists within a vacuum. When they arrive on campus, they bring their own educational, career, and personal goals and social context that impacts the conditions they need in order to succeed. Holistic student supports embraces this diversity of goals, need, and context and provides a framework for institutions to design a student-focused culture that delivers the unique combination of supports each student needs at the time they need them.

Answer: Yes! We will be using an app for this event to promote engagement and to share announcements, updates, and conference materials.   
Question: How much is the registration fee for the 2019 Holistic Student Supports Institute? What does the registration cover?

  Non-ATD Colleges and Other Organizations $875 $995  
  A 10% discount is available to institutions that register a team of four or more attendees at the same time.
  The fee includes all plenary and concurrent sessions, access to a facilitator during working times, coffee breaks, Tuesday meals (breakfast and lunch) and reception, Wednesday meals (breakfast and lunch) and Thursday breakfast. 
Question: What is NOT covered by the 2019 Holistic Student Supports Institute participation fee?
Answer: Travel, lodging, airport transfers and those meals not included in the registration fee.

Question: How do I reserve a hotel room for the 2019 Holistic Student Supports Institute?


A block of rooms has been reserved for the 2019 Holistic Student Supports Institute participants will stay at the Hilton Chicago/Oak Brook Hills Resort & Conference Center located at 3500 Midwest Road, Oak Brook, IL 60523. The conference rate is $149 per night. College representatives are responsible for making their hotel reservations by Monday, September 9 to get the special rate.

Please note: Hotel reservations made by any method other than the one described above are not guaranteed the conference room rate.

Question: Can I cancel my registration?
Answer: Cancellations are subject to a $150 administrative fee. Cancellations received after August 30, 2019, are nonrefundable. Substitution requests may be submitted in writing to by EOB Friday, September 20th and will be confirmed via return email.
