Facility Services Contracting Challenges and Opportunities,
Room: Texas D

Facilities Service Contracting was heralded as a way to reduce government labor costs and free up military personnel to focus on their military mission through reliance on private industry to provide competitive and innovative support for shore station/non-military or non-inherently governmental support. Over time, has this intent played out well in terms of cost or innovation? Are we achieving the best "bang for the buck" or are we being held hostage by contractors that continue to rachet up costs? What services or contracting strategies have performed well and which have not? Where are the opportunities/challenges for the government and/or the contractor today and in the future?

New Technologies for Facility Management,
Room: Texas D

Continued development of new technologies specifically designed to help facility managers do their jobs have created new opportunities and challenges for the profession. These technologies, such as building information modeling (BIM), building automation systems (BAS), energy monitoring systems (EMS) and computer-aided facility management (CAFM) systems, are of critical value yet also require the facility management team to master increasingly complex operations usually requiring significant resources. Do these systems benefit federal facilities in terms of cost or improved processes? Which systems do users find most beneficial and which can be the most problematic?
