Small Business Awards

The SAME Small Business Awards is an annual awards program honoring the achievements and accomplishments of small businesses, individuals who work as advocates for furthering small business interests, and large businesses that work to strengthen and support small business.

The deadline for nominations for the 2012 Small Business Awards has been extended to Friday, Nov. 2, 2012. All Small Business Awards nominations must be submitted to SAME HQ using our online nomination process.

 

Eligibility Criteria:

  • The Small Business and Large Business Awards can be self nominated and must be a SAME Sustaining Member Company in good standing prior to Jan. 1, 2011, to be eligible for these awards.
  • The Industry Small Business Advocate Award can be self nominated. The nominee must be a SAME Member in good standing and have been a SAME member prior to Jan. 1, 2011. The nomination must be accompanied by endorsements from two or more SAME small business owners.
  • Nominations for the Government Small Business Advocate Award must be made by an SAME Sustaining Member Company in good standing or the HQ Chief of Small Business for the Army, Navy and Air Force. The nomination must be accompanied by endorsements from two or more SAME small business owners.

Award Criteria:

Government Small Business Advocate Award Criteria (One Award Each to Army, Navy, Air Force and Small Business Administration)
Awards to be presented to a government small business or contracting representative who has demonstrated outstanding support to DOD small business programs within the past three years.
Selection criteria:

  • The individual must be employed in the small business or contracting field of a DOD or SBA component in support of contracts for planning, design, construction and environmental programs.
  • The primary criterion for this award is the extent to which the individual effectively communicates with small and large businesses to foster relationships and mentoring of small businesses.

Industry Small Business Advocate Award (One Award)
This award recognizes an individual from industry who has been an outstanding spokesperson and advocate for small business. The award recognizes efforts and actions accomplished for programs within the past three years.
Selection criteria:

  • The nomination must show examples of how the nominee worked on small business issues with SBA, DOD agencies, or other groups and how the individual contributed to SAME Small Business Conferences and training sessions, or represented small business interests in SAME forums.
  • The nomination should include letters of commendation, awards and other recognition for the individual’s efforts to support small business programs.

Small Business Award Criteria (One Award)
The nominee should meet all of the following criteria for work completed for the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy or U.S. Air Force within the last five years from nomination due date (Nov. 2, 2012) in an outstanding manner as evidenced by:

  • letters of commendations, awards, previous project evaluations, etc. to show past performance from client or prime contractor.
  • use of innovative technology or management to achieve outstanding results; • company support for the professional development of its employees through participation in SAME education and training activities; and
  • company participation in one or more small business conferences (e.g. 2011 SAME Small Business Conference, Veteran-Owned Small Business Conference, an SAME Post-sponsored small business conference, etc.).

Large Business Award Criteria (One Award)
The nominee should meet all of the following criteria for work completed for the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy or U.S. Air Force within the last five years from nomination due date (
Nov. 2, 2012) in an outstanding manner as evidenced by:

  • small business subcontracting performance as evidenced by Summary Subcontracting Reports (SSR’s) within the past five years;
  • description of the efforts to support small business programs;
  • letters of recognition or awards from DOD agencies or the Small Business Administration (SBA) for outstanding small business utilization and/or SBA subcontracting program review ratings;
  • company support for the internal training of the nominee’s program/project managers on how to involve and support small business initiatives; and
  • company participation in one or more small business conferences (e.g. 2011 SAME Small Business Conference, Veteran-Owned Small Business Conference, an SAME Post-sponsored small business conference, etc.).

Nomination Process:

Nominations for the SAME Small Business Awards must be submitted using our online nomination process. All nominations are due by COB Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2012. Selection Process:

SAME’s selection committee is chaired by a senior SAME member and six additional SAME members representing government and small and large business who are appointed by the SAME Executive Director. Any individual or company nominated is excluded from the selection committee. The committee reviews nominations and selects award recipients. SAME HQ notifies nominees of selection and presents awards at the SAME 2012 Small Business Conference.
