IPI’s EXPO FOCUSES ON SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTS & SERVICES
EXHIBITOR GER PROGRAM – What to look for when you’re in Phoenix!

According to IPI’s 2011 Emerging Trends in Parking survey, an increasing demand for green and sustainable parking solutions is a leading industry trend.  Parking and transportation solutions should balance economic feasibility, public health and welfare, and consideration of environmental effects.   This represents a fundamental shift in thinking and reflects the integral role parking professionals play in helping communities achieve sustainability goals.

Many parking facilities today are adopting best practices in sustainability with energy-efficient lighting, solar panels, and innovative water and waste management systems to reduce their carbon footprints.  These include implementing recycling systems, using local and recycled materials in construction, and installing renewable energy technology such as photovoltaic, wind power, bio-fuels, and hydrogen fuel cells. An increasing number of parking facilities are also supporting sustainability by accommodating alternative fuel vehicles.

This year, you’ll notice in Phoenix on the Expo Hall floor, many vendors with the GER Seal, indicating their commitment to sustainable products/services.  Be sure to look for this seal throughout the conference & expo as our industry strives to stay committed to the environment.

IPI has also made a concerted effort at the 2012 International Parking Institute Conference & Expo to be aware of our carbon footprint in terms of planning this event.  You’ll notice everything from your delegate bag, giveaway items, to notepads and many of the printed and non printed materials, indicated ECO-friendly or made from recycled products.  This is to show our commitment to sustainability as well as the support of our sponsors.

The Phoenix Convention Center was also chosen as the host of IPI’s 2012 Conference & Expo because of their own commitment and sustainability mission:  “The Phoenix Convention Center does not just pay homage to the Sonoran Desert in its design, it lives and breathes with it, thanks to an ongoing dedication to incorporating environmentally friendly efforts.  These practices maximize energy efficiency through resource management, cutting-edge marketing strategies, sound business decisions and providing education programs to raise community awareness.”

The Phoenix Convention Center’s West Building, with its variety of environmentally-friendly technology and design elements, was awarded LEED Silver Certification by the U.S. Green Building Council in 2008.  LEED Certification is only given to the world’s greenest, most energy efficient, and high performing buildings.  Extensive sustainability programs and practices have been implemented throughout the building.

Published its Framework on Sustainability for Parking Design, Management, and Operations, outlining industry-wide goals and organization action items that provide education, incentives, and forums for members to learn about and contribute to sustainable parking solutions.
