2011 Call for Proposals
NYSSBA’s heading back upstate! Our 92nd Annual Convention & Education Expo will be held October 27-30, 2011 at the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center. More than 2,000 school board members, superintendents, district business officials and NYS Education Department representatives will be in attendance, representing more than 700 school districts and Boards of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) in New York State.
Share your expertise and knowledge with school board members, educational leaders, and students by participating in this esteemed event. Submit a proposal for a session that is distinctive, noteworthy and useful for our members, and yours just might be selected!
Submission deadline has been EXTENDED until February 18, 2011.
What makes a good written proposal?
- Be specific and avoid generalizations. Remember that school board members and superintendents attend NYSSBA’s convention to learn how to better served their school districts. They want new, adaptable, and specific ideas. They have the overall picture; they’re looking for real, how-to information.
- Include policy information, where applicable. Over 85% of your audience consists of school board members whose primary responsibility is policy governance—you should try to include policy implications in your presentation.
- Stay with the subject. Clinics are short and time is valuable. Try to refrain from idle commentary and jokes. Humor is a wonderful vehicle to emphasize a point, but be careful not to sacrifice information for entertainment. Also, please remember the description used in the program book – your audience expects you to stay within the parameters.
