Turnover is a regular occurrence in the parks and recreation industry, especially with seasonal, part-time, and entry-level positions. When these turnovers occur the upper management become responsible for filling the staffing gap. This usually requires posting an ad, accepting applications, interviewing candidates, and making a selection. In some instances, that is where the hiring process stops, but it should not. Assimilating your new hire to your agency is a critical step in socializing this new staff member and assisting in making them feel welcome in an uncertain environment.
